Charlie

I’m far from perfect.

I’ve made mistakes.

And every day I wake up and make a promise to myself. A promise to stay on the right path and not let my past take hold.

Relationships are risky for someone not in recovery. For a guy like me, it could not only be dangerous, but it could compromise all the work I’ve done to stay clean. At least that’s what my family thinks.

But Violet adds a purpose to my life that I didn’t even realize I was missing.

Violet

He’s got ‘flaws’. He says he’s done unforgivable things, but something in his deep brown eyes says there’s so much more to him than the mistakes he’s made in the past.

Besides, I have flaws too, so who am I to judge?

Being imperfect is one of the many things Charlie and I have in common, and soon, two flawed people form an unlikely and unexpected bond.

It doesn’t take long before I find myself falling for the out of towner and all too soon, he’s got to head back home.

Can our relationship endure the long distance, especially when events from his past threaten our future?

Let me tell you something: I will happily stop drinking all the drinks for Charlie. All I need is my man, my man, my man. I love this story with Charlie and Violet. It was not all sugar cookies and roses. There were severe issues they had to tackle, such as alcoholism and family drama, which made it very relatable. I love Charlie and the vulnerability he showed in being accountable for his past actions and making his previous addiction his issue, not others. I enjoyed the AA meeting. That was such a pivotal moment in the relationship between Charlie and Violet. Violet was like a lioness when it came to her man and her relationship, and she didn't take any stuff when it came to them. I am glad she resolved the issues with her sister, and the family side note her dad was hilarious. Now, to the con, I could not STAND Colt in this book. He tapped dance on my last nerve like mind your own business. He was too controlling and didn't understand boundaries. Colt was looking for your brother, but he took it too far. I am happy Violet forgave him because I don't think I would have; this was an excellent read in the end. It was great catching up with older characters and hopefully preparing for more *hint, hint*. When I got to the end, I felt like sunshine and rainbows.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I LOVED Charlie and Violet's story!! The spicy is SPICY!! The only thing that I didn't remember was how arrogant Colt was but as the story unfolds he gained my love back. All of the side characters were beautifully written.

Charlie is standing dejectedly outside of his brother's New York apartment building when Violet steps outside. When she arrived for her training session with his sister-in-law Vickie he had been heading out for a date. Why was he back and looking so sad?

I loved this book! It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. Although this book has its own HEA Charlie's brother Colt is a major part of this story and I would suggest that you read his story in Takeoff.

Even though this book is smoking hot Charlie is endearing as he struggles with alcoholism, especially with his helicopter brother Colt around. I love how Violet loves Charlie unconditionally and only wants to be his safe space. I love Colt but he really takes his concern for his brother past boundaries.

This book is about loving unconditionally and mending fences despite the past as both Charlie and Violet have family issues to deal with. Totally enjoyed!

good read (contains spoilers)

It was nice to catch up with Charlie. It was good that he was now in recovery although his self esteem was shot. The relationship with Violet progressed at a nice pace, although her reaction to the long distance was over the top, but well.
As much as I enjoyed Charlie’s relationship with his family, in particular his mother and his nephews, I struggled with Violet at times. Although she was very accepting with Charlie, I felt she let her complicated family dynamics interfere with her view of Colt. Yes, Colt was overbearing, however she expected too much too soon. As he pointed out to her, she never experienced living with an addict for years and she didn’t get it. Even now Charlie was in recovery not in the throes of addiction, so she couldn’t possibly understand. Instead of trying to see Colt’s position, she was defensive and out of line with the “I know him better than you”. It’s not a competition and actually their conversation cleared the air. Her getting offended because he told his mother in a conversation she overheard that he didn’t trust her, was silly. It’s not like he attacked her. Having a professional relationship with someone and suddenly having them at the family dinner table and trusting their judgment with a “vulnerable “ family member , are two different things. Her judging Colt after all the issues he had with Charlie, whilst still supporting him, was highly hypocritical given her lack of relationship with her sister for arguably a lot less.
PS: I missed the showdown with Wade and Spencer regarding their houses.

I absolutely loved this book!

Wow! This author never disappoints, Ms. Sola you did it again. Charlie had issues dealing with his past addiction feeling that he wasn’t worth happiness and love until he met Violet and she supported and never judged him, most of all she believed in him. Colt his brother seemed controlling and protective you will have to read to know what I am talking about, but he loves his brother. This book has just the right amount of spice, humor, and issues that touch our everyday lives that lets you know that second chances at life and love are possible. This book is worth reading and will captures your attention. Again, I loved it.

ARC. This book was sweet and spicy! Another good one from ES. As I’ve said before about her writing; she lays the foundation so well you feel like you’ve read a full book by 20% and then settle in for the rest of the journey.
As we know from book 3 in the series, Charley is a revolving alcoholic. He’s worked hard and is determined to maintain his sobriety. The only thing missing from his life is a relationship but he feels with all he’s done in the past he doubts he deserves to find love. With his sister in law pushing him to start dating he reluctantly agrees.
Violet is vickie’s personal trainer and a successful business woman but owning her own gym means she is lonely outside of working. So when her and Charley get talking it’s as if two lost lonely souls finding each other.
I loved that love was straightforward in this book. I like you, you like me, let’s do this. Of course they both had their insecurities about it being that easy but it just was. Of course being a romance novel there were hiccups along the way to throw a spanner in the works but I cried at the HEA ending. I loved Charley’s honesty and vulnerability. He is my new book boyfriend. Tall strong and sensitive 🥰

Book 4 in the Take series !!
“Part of my recovery is being open and honest, so I don’t plan on hidin’ what I’ve been through. Not that I want to talk about it all the time, I just want them to know. Sometimes things come up, and I want to be able to express myself and not walk on eggshells around her.” I think of my brother and Vickie who share everything. Sometimes they talk with just their eyes. That’s what I want, but I keep most of that to myself. "

I loved this book SO much ! The connection between two almost strangers with a perception of the otherwise so sweet but messy as well. Pasts sometimes has a way of threatening the future, even with perfect chemistry. Messy family drama, colorful conversations in the mix, & a possibility of love made me jump right in this book. Following the Chastain family again in their world and seeing another dimension of their story was comforting...... 💋💋💋💋

Charlie!!!!♥️

This is truly a story of redemption and second chances but not between the couple. It’s a story of forgiveness of one’s own past mistakes as well as of other’s mistakes against you. Charlie and Violet are friends first and their love is palpable, sexy and affirming. I love this couple! Best part of the this is that there is no third act breakup. This is my favorite book in the Take series. Enjoy!

Take Two
By Evelyn Sola

Rating: ★★★★★ (5/5)

Take Two by Evelyn Sola is one of the best romances I have read in 2024. I know it’s only April but it’s going to be hard to top this story. Having complex story lines with main characters who have so much depth, Take Two is not like your typical “romance” novel. This is a romance focusing on redemption, overcoming self-doubt, manipulation/toxic relationships, in addition to love, unequivocal acceptance, endearment, drop-dead sexiness, and effortless chemistry we all hope and wish for in real life. There was no 3rd act break up, though the two main characters do share difficult moments and face adversity throughout their story. Their perseverance to push past those things and dedication to each other made this story for me – I couldn’t put it down and stayed up way too long to continue reading. I took my time writing this review because this book, these characters meant so much to me. I honestly still feel I will come up short with expressing to you how amazing this book is, but I have certainly aimed to try to convey such a message!

In a swift summary, Take Two’s plot surrounds Violet, FMC, and Charlie, MMC. They meet in New York when Charlie is visiting his little brother, Colt, who is very famous in the NBA, from Alabama. Violet is Vickie’s (Colt’s wife) personal trainer, and while she and Charlie have met before in the past during his prior trips, this trip is the one that changes them both. Vickie is pushing Charlie to date and while pushing him out the door to a date with a woman he met on a dating app, in walks Violet who gets to witness this conversation as she arrives for a training session with Vickie. Charlie is very hard on himself because of mistakes he has made in the past and he doesn’t find himself worthy of a good woman. When his date ends before it really even begins, he’s spotted by Violet who invites him to hang out and eat pizza at her apartment to avoid the third degree questions he would undoubtedly face should he go home so early. The two hit it off immediately and keep it on the down low for a bit to test the waters, but quickly realize they are the missing link in each other’s lives. I am going to leave the summary there because anything else would expose too much of the plot and I truly want you to be able to experience this incredible story unfold as I did!

Violet and Charlie are opposites, which is why I think they complement each other perfectly. Violet is confident, even amongst antagonists, and she doesn’t settle when she knows what she wants. Everyone can remember their favorite “book boyfriends”, me included, but Violet is the female book character I look up to and admire. For how strong and confident she is, she is also nonjudgmental, understanding, intelligent, and she kicks ass at her job. These qualities are why she is the yin to Charlie’s yang as he is constantly in a state of self-doubt because of his past mistakes despite having worked very hard to turn his life around. Regardless of his self-doubt, one thing he is absolutely confident about is the fact that Violet is the one for him and he will not let anything or anyone come between them. They are incredibly mature characters who face real-life, relatable obstacles which is where I feel Mrs. Sola’s writing sets Take Two apart from your typical romance novel. In addition, these two face each obstacle TOGETHER with logic and reason – not unnecessary, unrealistic behavior which inevitably creates more drama within the plot.

Both main characters have family who I found to be very involved with them, whether it was welcomed or not, and they are frequently found in scene with one or both of them. Some of these folks I liked, and some I did not – however, my preference for these characters is on par for what I believe Mrs. Sola wanted me to feel about them. There are high tensions between both sets of siblings, and for Violet, the tension extends to just about everyone else in her family except for her father. Her parents have been divorced since she was 13 years old, so she’s been a part of a split family for more than half of her life. Then there’s Violet’s stepdad, Wade, and her brother-in-law, Spencer, who add to the tension intentionally; they’re jerks of the worse kind. As I mentioned in the paragraph above, Violet and Charlie are yin and yang, and I truly believe Charlie and his influence on her life had a major impact on her relationships with her family by the end of the book.

Violet’s father, Miles, is one of my favorite side characters in this book. He plays the long game in the background of the book, but you always know he’s there and can anticipate his support for Violet even before he shows or voices it. His humor, which Violet often refers to as being “messy” in the book, is funny to me and he is someone who can identify the right areas to poke in a person to get the reaction he wants, which is usually annoyance or aggravation. One of his favorite characters to pester is Violet’s mom, Wanda, and she feeds in to it every single time. They had the pretend-I-hate-you-but-it-is-really-flirting type of chemistry to me and I was there for it!

My favorite scene from the book is when Charlie walks down the stairs at Vickie and Colt’s Montauk home and it’s as if he sees no one else – he walks directly to Violet, takes her in his arms and kisses her in front of everyone. The ownership, openly staking claim on Violet by Charlie in this scene absolutely melted me. Both characters only saw each other and no one else. There was no hesitation, no room for doubt, no care for who was watching on and gawking. I’ve already re-read this scene to “test” how it feels to read it again, and I’m here to say, the swoon stands and still hits full force.

There were two scenes that wrecked me emotionally, but in the best way possible. The first was when Violet and her mom had an honest heart-to-heart with each other more than halfway through the book. Hearing her mom’s story from behind-the-scenes felt like redemption on a smaller scale I believe her character needed, especially when it came to her relationship with Violet. The second scene was when Mary Leigh, Charlie’s mama, made a gesture to indicate she was passing on the head of household designation to Charlie in her Birmingham home – I was ugly crying. Mary Leigh is a tough, southern mama who does not take crap from anyone, including her sons, and her sons are both mama’s boys to a T. This gesture was seen as more than flattery, it was an honor and very moving. These scenes were touching and beautifully written. I felt like I was in the room with the characters as I read the pages.

Saving one of the best parts for last, I would be remiss if I did not reference the intense yet easy chemistry Charlie and Violet experienced with each other. Not only did they have a great, mature relationship, but the incredible attraction they have for each other is so effortless and constant. Neither of them had to put on a show for the other or pretend to be something they were not to garner attention. The spicy scenes were full of steam and longing but didn’t feel as if Mrs. Sola was going over-the-top with her writing to create them. The scenes weren’t forced, they were just seamless. These moments always ended with a level of affection between the two that further solidified they were made for one another.

In conclusion, if you are a romance fan and you are looking for a book that will not only keep your attention the entire time but will provide you with a great plot and interesting side plots – this is your book. This book is not drama free, but the drama involved is realistic and occurs organically, definitely not forced. There are lots of winks and a sexy southern drawl to fall in love with. I have already begun to re-read it again to experience Violet & Charlie from the beginning and they are just as endearing the second time around!

Mrs. Sola, thank you for truly amazing, relatable characters to fall in love with – Violet and Charlie will stay on my mind for a while to come and I welcome it!

I’m going to choose to ignore the unnecessary blip that happened towards the end so that I can say this is my second favorite book from this author! I loved Charlie and Violet so much! I was so worried the book was about to be ruined for me when the “twist” was thrown in, but thank GOD it worked out because I loved every other second of this!
The way Charlie and Violet never resisted each other and both just wanted someone to love was so refreshing to read and I ate it up!

I have been crasaaaving a new book by this author, almost as much as I want a new MZ book👀👀👀👀👀still waiting on that one tho….

To refresh my memory, Charlie, the H, is Colt from Takeoff’s brother and the heroine is a new character!

Soooooo excited🤩

Charlie is officially a Cinnamon Roll!

So—for seasoned romance readers we're constantly bombarded with acronyms in romance, the most recent one that grabbed my attention is the term cinnamon roll—because, guess what? I love cinnamon rolls.

However, in romance its meaning overall and according to Publisher's Weekly is ...

In the parlance of romance novels, a “cinnamon roll” is a sweet, supportive, and kind hero—the anti–Christian Grey. The phrase alludes to a 2014 Onion headline, “Beautiful Cinnamon Roll Too Good for This World, Too Pure,” and has come to represent a subgenre of books that push back on toxic masculinity.

Now, I'm NOT going to debate the issue of Toxic Masculinity because I believe it too has it's own place within specific genres of Romance.

Now ...

Charlie Chastain was not on my radar as someone I had to have a story about, but I'm glad Evelyn wrote this story of probably the sweetest, kindest hero I've ever had the pleasure to read. He's at the top of my list for keeper for eternity and beyond. He's right up there with Ethan Bradford. Yes, THAT Ethan from one of my favorite books of all time—'Takeover' by Evelyn Sola and if you haven't read that book drop everything and read it—1) because it's very, very, very good and 2) because it's the start of the 'Take' Series.

We meet Charlie where he is, a place where we want to know the recovering Charlie better and we're rooting for him to succeed and be happy. He's done the work, for three solid years of staying away from alcohol and its triggers. Vickie—Charlies' sister-in-law (and Tara's sister from Takeover) has determined it's time for Charlie to date, so she sets up his profile and he connects with a match.

It's the day of Charlie's first date in a very long time and Violet Dixon, Vickie's personal trainer is a witness to snatches bits and pieces of the conversation between the family members and is a witness to Charlie's nervousness. Later that night, fate decides it has other plans for Charlie and it involves Violet who invites Charlie to her place for pizza and conversation. The atmosphere is a bit electric and on the downlow, they are both feeling an attraction that both are hesitant to acknowledge or reveal.

Violet gives signs that she's interested and Charlie is not totally sure he's reading the room correctly until he finds out, he is. I loved that Charlie was reluctant to put the cart before the horse but Violet was a woman who definitely knew what and who she wanted in her life.

This romance was a pleasure from start to finish, with of course, some bumps in the road to their happiness, courtesy of Colt's overbearing behavior, I wanted to smack him. Charlie wasn't shy in letting Colt know that he continued to own his past mistakes and that he was on the straight and narrow because he had too much to lose otherwise. Plus, Colt's son loved his Uncle Charlie. I enjoyed getting to know the Chastain's better and Charlie and Colt's mom was a hoot, she did NOT play.

I didn't know Charlie had a story I wanted to read until it was written and he is everything. Now, Imma need Caleb's Story, who is the cousin (and comic relief) of Max and David from The Sutton Brothers Series—'Downfall' and 'Defeat', respectively.

Highly, highly Recommended: Read It!

Take Your Time…
This phrase totally sums up an Evelyn Sola book. She marinates and layers her narrative so thoroughly that readers have no recourse but to sit back and inhabit the fascinating world of her characters. For this fourth foray into the “Take-verse” we are reacquainted with Charlie, the brother of NBA star Colt Chastain from Takeoff. We see a great deal of Colt in Charlie’s story and some of the muted arrogance from his storyline bleeds through in his interactions with Charlie and Violet. After a long downward spiral that lasted years, Charlie is in recovery. He is gainfully employed, has put his life and family connections back together and is hesitantly looking for romance. Ms. Sola makes Charlie so sweet and likable that readers INSTANTLY root for his success. Violet is a renown personal trainer and works with Colt’s wife Vickie. She has been aware of Charlie for months, but only has a personal interaction with him when she discovers him disappointed after a blind date gone wrong. Their chemistry is incendiary, and I enjoyed that in their dynamic Violet was more assertive and self-assured. Charlie is still grappling with many wasted years and has never had an adult romantic relationship! Understanding and nonjudgmental Violet is exactly the partner he needed. One of the best features of Ms. Sola’s books involves her incredible depiction of side characters: villains and potential main characters for future books. Terri, Violet’s older sister is prominently featured in this book, and I would love to read her story as she meets her dream man. Take Two is a fairly straight forward love story involving two nice people, a few misunderstandings, but no excessive drama (Colt not withstanding) and absolutely enjoyable!

This was my first time reading anything by this author and I think she did an absolutely amazing job with this book and story. The connection, the chemistry, the passion, the understanding and the depth of love was superb.

Here we have the two main characters who both have made mistakes in their past learned from them and changed to the people they are now. One is a recovering alcoholic who has been sober for 3 years and owns a successful restaurant after spending 13 years in a bottle. The other is a college drop out who owns a successful female only gym where she also does private fitness programs for clients as well. In a way both are underdogs that people didn't think would make it let alone be successful. Their paths cross because Violet is the personal trainer for Vickie who is Charlie's sister-in-law.

After one of Violet's training sessions she is on her way home when she bumps into Charlie who's blind date didn't go so well. They end up hanging out that night with food and good conversation and things shift and change in that one night. That was Charlie's way of getting back into the dating world after being in the bottle for so long. Throughout their time they have their bumps and curves trying to be together most of it revolving around their families and the drama that comes with them. No matter what life threw at them they persevered and came out stronger with a deeper love for each other. They are so in love with each other that they try to make the long distance work but after a few times of flying back and forth and hating not being with each other, Charlie decides that New York is where his happiness is and he wants nothing more to be there with Violet and spend his life with her.

I really appreciated the way the author tackled the main characters in this book. Charlie is an alcoholic, and although he's been sober for a couple of years, his drinking problem still haunts him and causes him problems. It's not helped by the fact that in trying to be protective of him, some of his family become overbearing and too much, almost coddling him. The sensitivity the author showed to Charlie's character and the way she really showcased his POV and inner monologues really helped me to understand his thoughts and feelings, and it had me wanting to champion his success because he was so lovely, sweet, and caring. Violet was a little bit more brash, and if I'm honest, some of her actions irritated me at first, but the way she stood up and supported Charlie in his journey made me soften to her.

The sideline characters added a lot to the story. From tension with Charlie's overbearing brother Colt and the arguments that ensued to similar issues between Violet and her sister, both main characters had turbulent pasts that continued to try and drag them down, but they stayed strong and worked at it, and I loved Violet's dad, Miles, and his 'messiness'.

It was an emotional read with lots of challenges, but there was no third-act breakup, which I appreciated. It showed two people who genuinely cared about each other working through the many trials life throws at them.

My only issue with the book, and it's my personal preference, is the excessive mention of gagging during spicy times. Maybe that's just me, though?

The fourth book in the Take series is all about Restaurateur Charlie Chastain. In his book, readers truly get a chance to learn more about Charlie outside of him being just Colt’s older brother. Charlie is a recovering alcoholic while being in his third year of sobriety and is rebuilding his life. After a blind date gone awry, he has a chance meeting with Violet Dixon. This is where the story begins to heat up.
Violet Dixon starts as Vickie Chastain’s Personal Trainer, but she begins to connect with Charlie. As the story progresses our main couple begins to build their relationship. However, their road to HEA is not a smooth path. I don’t want to spoil the story, but I will there is a good balance of drama, romance, and humor. Charlie and Violet have many differences but share similarities, especially in having major family drama. Charlie is a sweetheart, and Violet helps build him up while supporting him without judgment. Violet is a strong character and Charlie brought out the best in her. Mama Chastain and Violet’s Dad Miles had me chuckling throughout the book. While Charlie’s and Violet’s older siblings irked my nerves, they grew on me. We also had a chance to see a realistic recovery not only for Charlie, but his loved ones as well. Lastly, I was pleased that some characters got what they deserved. Overall, I did enjoy the story. I am patiently waiting for Seth and Layla’s story. I am ready curious and building up my potential theories.

LAWD-A-MERCY!!

Evelyn Sola, you had me in ALL my feelings with Take Two. I laughed, I cried, I was pissed, I was feeling petty, I cussed, I wanted to fight, I cheered, I blushed and I sighed. I loved this book! Thank you for taking the time to make addiction real but not completely hopeless. Thank you for sharing how important being a true partner to your spouse is and how important it is to provide a safe space for the ones you love.

The characters were true to life and I loved how honest they were with their feelings and their intentions. It was refreshing to read a book where the characters were mature enough and had experienced enough that they did not play games.

The book gave us a view of how addiction affects the members of a loving family differently and shows that even though we love our family, we may not know how to show that love in the right way. Sometimes our way of showing our concern or love may end up hurting instead of helping. Even through those difficult scenes, Evelyn had me snickering, shaking my head with a wry smile or exclaiming out loud (can’t say too much, you have to read it to find out).

This book was the type of book where I kept looking to see how much was left because I wanted desperately to get to the end, but at the same time I wanted to have so much more to read because it was so good.

Another triumph. Another beautifully witty book with the spicy moments we love. ❤️🔥👏🏾

If you have read the previous books in this series you are very familiar with Charlie Chastain. You first meet him in Takeoff and he is the screw up brother of Colt Chastain, NBA star and single dad. If you haven’t read that book, I recommend reading it, although it’s not crucial. (As an aside this entire series is great) By reading Takeoff first you really get a chance to see how far Charlie has come. Charlie is about 3 years sober at the beginning of this book and it’s been a hard battle but he is finally in a good place and he wants the kind of relationship his brother has with his wife. Charlie is encouraged to date and uses an app and he is on his way to meet her when the book opens. Enter Violet, she is the personal trainer and friend of Vickie (Colt’s wife) and she has seen Charlie at Colt and Vickies apartment when she comes over for training but they haven’t interacted much. When Charlie’s date is a bust and Violet sees him out and about, she is drawn to him and she invites him to spend the evening with her, little do they know, they are each looking for something, and this chance encounter is a new beginning for them both.

I LOVED THIS BOOK!! I LOVED THIS BOOK! I LOVED THIS BOOK! It gives you ALL the feels. Having read the previous books I was skeptical about how Charlie’s redemption story would play out but I could not have loved his transformation more. Charlie is dealing with some heavy issues, and along with that comes a lot of self doubt, but he also has a lot of hope and really believes in love. Enter Violet, and although she has a lot going for her, she is also dealing with some serious issues with her family that of course influence the way she navigates her life and relationships. Evelyn Sola rights strong female leads and Violet is a force, and her unconditional love of Charlie is evident throughout this book. Charlie is also now my new favorite book boyfriend, he has a level of vulnerability that is enduring and his struggle to move forward while still dealing with is past is wonderful to read. His unwavering support of Violet is truly what every woman wants in a partner. I cannot say enough great things about this book. It is right up there as one of my favorites. I will definitely be in my re-read list when I want to read about a swoony romance with just the right amount of drama. Great book, definitely a must read!!

Though her story is totally different from Charlie’s …the two find it easy to confide in one another…

With distance and other obstacles… can the pair who seem so meant be make it work.

Uuuhh. I loved this story so much. Spice. Banter and the laughs are always 1000/10 when it comes to this author. But what I enjoyed most was how natural the chemistry between the MCs was. I absolutely love a redemption arc. Charlie was one one my favorite side characters and I was excited to hear he was getting his own story.

Highly highly recommended

Take Two is a heartwarming tale that beautifully illustrates the transformative power of forgiveness and unconditional love. The story revolves around Charlie and Violet, both of whom have their share of past mistakes and regrets.

Ms. Sola does an exceptional job of weaving their individual narratives together, creating a tapestry of emotions that resonates deeply with readers. As the characters navigate through their challenges, we witness the profound impact forgiveness has on healing old wounds and paving the way for new beginnings.

What stands out in this book is its authentic portrayal of human relationships. The characters are flawed, yet endearing, making them relatable and compelling. Their journey towards reconciliation is portrayed with sensitivity and nuance, allowing readers to empathize with their struggles and triumphs.

Moreover, the book's message about the importance of unconditional love is both powerful and uplifting. It serves as a reminder that love has the ability to transcend barriers, heal wounds, and bring about profound changes in our lives.

I can't wait to see what she does next.

I loved this book. It has a quiet, determined hero, Charlie, who has been in recovery for 3 years but despairs of finding a woman who will accept him as he is. He is also a restaurant owner in Alabama but is in NYC visiting his brother, a basketball star. He goes on one date, which is terrible, and Violet, our heroine, takes him home for pizza. They are friendly before they are lovey, which is always nice. But they certainly are hot when they get around to it. Oh, Violet is Black, and Charlie is white. That is not much of an issue to anyone except the villain. Race would have been more of an issue in Alabama, but the author did not address this. Although Violet is a high-energy, high achiever, she has many family issues, while Charlie's mom is supportive. His brother, Colt, is an overbearing dolt, but we understand why. This book realistically depicts what alcoholism does to a person and a family, which is one of the reasons I loved it. However, I thought it was too long, and Violet's sister was annoying, even though her story was essential to the development of the plot.

This is a book guaranteed to make you hold on to it, re read it and think about it, long after you've finished it. This a sensitive, emotional depiction of a man, broken by his addiction, poor choices and life in general, receiving the chance to love and be loved. This book caused tears to flow because everyone knows what it like to be rejected and to feel like there's nothing out there for you. Charlie was going through life expecting little. He was broken. A second chance was what he got. A second chance and a safe space. Violet loved with all of her heart and soul. She was not in fear of Charlie. She gave him what he needed and together they built upon his fragile foundations. The embers of his past life blew away, revealing a pure and glorious love.

Ms Sola writes with emotional sensitivity and grace about addiction and its impact upon family members. Fans of Ms Soul's books will definitely feel some type of way about some of the characters in the book.

This is a tender, but spicy romance that is surely a must read. And, for fans of Evelyn Sola's books, it is another winner. Too many stars to list. Five is not enough. Thank you Evelyn!

Take Two - Evelyn Sola

This one was seriously such a ride. It had me feeling all the emotions! Truly it had me giggling to smiling and blushing to practically crying and so annoyed but overall I was so in love with the story. Charlie and Violet are definitely a favorite book couple now and getting their HEA was definitely an emotional ride. With messy pasts and struggles and some definite drama it can definitely be hard for some. Overbearing family at points but in a way so understandable. This one was just such a comfortable and relatable story for some.

I want to start off by saying that I am a huge Evelyn Sola fan. I started reading her books about a year ago and I have never been disappointed.

I must say that "Take Two" may be my favorite! We first meet Charlie in the book "Takeoff." He is the brother of the main character in that book. Charlie has been through a lot and made a lot of mistakes, but he is finally hitting on all cylinders. He has been in recovery for years and he is running a successful restaurant in his hometown. Charlie is now open to dating. Enter Violet, she is his sister-in-law's personal trainer. She is successful in her own right, but she struggles with family members who work hard to make her feel less than.

I love how Ms. Sola is able to write such rich characters with complicated family dynamics. Through all of that character development, Ms. Sola is still able to write a beautiful love story that will have you rooting for Charlie and Violet through all the twist and turns.

I highly recommend this book. You will not be able to put it down!

Charlie has spent years fighting to get his life back on track and repair his relationship with his brother. Now that things seem to be on the right track, he's looking for that special someone to share his life with. Is he ready for a serious relationship or will his old demons, along with his meddling baby brother, stand in his way.
Violet's life is good. Her business is doing great, she and her father are close, and with the exception of her rocky relationships with the rest of her family, things couldn't be better. Now all she needs is the right man to share her life with, and after spending time with Charlie she's wondering if he could be just what she's looking for.
Charlie and Violet try to navigate a new relationship while trying to prevent overbearing family members from tearing them apart. These two seem to click from the very beginning and once they decided to be together no one or anything was going to come between them. There story is passionate, sweet , and entertaining from beginning to end.

Take Two was a story about love and the human condition. As a person who has someone near and dear to them who is a recovering alcoholic, this story absolutely resonated.

Violet and Charlie were great. I loved how they met and how they interacted with one another throughout the book. Violet was no wilting flower but had a heart bigger than the sun. I loved that for her. She completely understood the assignment when it came to her relationship with Charlie.

Charlie was just so dang loveable!
Reading about him and his sweet, caring, protective ways definitely reminded me of my honey (luv ya babe!). He showed that dealing with addiction didn't mean life stopped. He took the necessary steps to make sure he was able to continue to live life to the fullest while sober.

The gang is all here for this story. And even when Colt was being annoying (and trust me he definitely was) I understood what it was and where it came from. Again, the human condition.

I've been a fan of ES's work since Crash. This story didn't disappoint!

Charlie & Violet, what can I say. I loved them. They showed support and vulnerability to each other without judgment. They became friends by happenstance, after his failed date with someone else. she listened to him as he talked about his struggles and didn't judge him for anything he shared with her. Her support of him was amazing. His treatment of her made her feel cared for and protected. The downside is her family not having her back as she struggled with the changes of her parents' divorce and her mom marrying someone who didn't have her best interest at heart. Charlie's brother Colton, while I get why he acted like that it was out of fear. It came across as distrust for believing in Charlie to make the right choices for himself. I loved the banter between Charlie and Violet and how she put Colt in his place respectfully despite how he came across to her as a jerk on occasion. It's a deep read about a sensitive topic, and I would recommend this book.

I loved Charlie.

Book four of The Take series is a captivating blend of romance, drama, and humor, with characters like Charlie, Violet, and Colt. The chemistry between Charlie and Violet is palpable, with their connection tinged with both sweetness and strife. The narrative delves deep into the gritty realities of life, tackling issues like recovering from alcoholism and familial discord with unflinching honesty. Violet's unwavering support for Charlie adds layers of depth to their relationship. The peripheral characters, including Violet's tumultuous familial relationships and Charlie's overbearing brother Colt, add their challenges and conflicts to the mix. While the resolution of certain familial tensions is appreciated, the messiness of her father's antics adds a touch of humor to the narrative. Colt's overbearing nature and lack of understanding grated on my nerves. I wanted to gut punch him so many times, he became my least favorite character. Who made Colt the boss of Charile? Overall, the story lingers long after the final page is turned.
